The flower buds of this extraordinary indigo plant open first in a warm, pale yellow, then slowly, almost in slow motion, fade to a creamy white. A color change that is hardly expected and precisely for that reason so enchanting. From May to June, the sturdy, upright shoots bear loose clusters of flowers that are visible from afar in the garden. Beneath them: dark blue-green, matte foliage that retains its shape even after flowering. And when autumn arrives, the elegant, dark seed pods remain – beautiful enough for a dried flower arrangement, beautiful enough simply to be left standing.
