Planting instructions

Pre-cultivate and plant anemones

Anemones can be planted either in autumn, from September to November (for spring blooms), or in early spring, from January to March (for summer blooms). Before planting, soak the tubers in water for about 5 hours, then place them in potting soil until they begin to sprout. Anemones prefer a sunny to partially shaded location and humus-rich, well-draining soil. Ideally, plant the tubers 5-6 cm deep. The spacing between tubers should be 10-15 cm.

caring for anemones

During the growing season, anemones prefer consistent but not excessive watering – avoid waterlogging. A light organic fertilizer during the flowering period promotes abundant blooms. Anemones tolerate light frost (down to -5°C) well – in case of severe frost, provide winter protection. Alternatively, the tubers can be dug up after flowering and stored in a frost-free location.

Harvesting anemones

Anemones make wonderful cut flowers and, if harvested correctly, last a particularly long time in a vase. The ideal time is when the bloom is just beginning to open, so they display their full beauty in the vase. Cut the stems in the early morning when the plant is well-hydrated and place them immediately in fresh, cool water. Remove any lower leaves that would be submerged to prevent rot.
