The best time to plant daffodils is in autumn, about 6-8 weeks before the first frost. The location should be sunny or partially shaded, and the soil well-drained and humus-rich. The holes should be about 15 cm deep; a general rule is to plant the bulb at least twice as deep as it is tall.
Care for daffodils
After planting, the bulbs should be watered thoroughly. During the growing season, daffodils need regular but not excessive watering. In spring, you can use a high-quality fertilizer to promote growth. Once the daffodils have finished blooming, the faded flowers should be cut off. Leave the foliage on the plant until it turns yellow. This provides the bulb with the necessary energy for the following year.
Dig up daffodils and overwinter them
The ideal time to dig up daffodils is after they have finished flowering, usually in late spring or early summer, once the foliage has completely yellowed. A cool, dry place is ideal for overwintering. Store the bulbs in a well-ventilated cardboard box. The optimal temperature is between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius.
