Sowing and caring for Cosmos
Sow indoors between February and April. Grow the seedlings in individual pots or tubs until they are large enough to be planted out. Before planting out, harden them off by placing them outside from time to time (when there is no longer any risk of frost). Cosmos can also be sown directly from May onwards.
Pruning at approx. 30 cm promotes bushier plants. Cosmos may need to be supported during the growing season. Water regularly and remove wilted flowers to prolong the flowering period.
Harvesting cosmos & cutting for vases
For ideal vase life, cut cosmos when the buds are just opening and have not yet fully opened (for double varieties, when they are about half open). The best time to cut is in the morning. Vase life is about 5 to 7 days.
