Planting instructions
Sowing and caring for clarkias
Sow indoors between March and April. Cover the seeds only very thinly with soil, as they are light germinators. Do not plant out until there is no longer any risk of frost. Can also be sown directly into the bed in late spring. Almond blossoms prefer a sunny to semi-shaded location with well-drained soil. Water moderately and avoid waterlogging. Flowering time can be extended by regularly removing wilted flowers.
Harvesting clarkias & cutting them for vases
The “firmness test” can be used to determine whether the almond blossom is ready for harvesting. To do this, hold the stem about 5-8 cm below the flower and check it gently: if the stem is soft or gives way, it is not yet ready to harvest; it is only ready when it remains firm and stable. It is best to cut them early in the morning when the stems are full of water. They will last about 7 days in a vase.
