Planting instructions

Sowing and caring for poppies

Indoors, sow seeds between February and April. Press the seeds lightly into the soil and do not cover them (they are light-dependent germinators). Outdoors, sow in small pots in a sheltered spot protected from rain and later transplant the seedlings into the garden bed. Alternatively, sow directly into the garden bed. Sowing in autumn and early spring is ideal. Germination can be accelerated by placing the seeds in the refrigerator for a week before sowing, as cool-flowering varieties require a period of cold. Poppies have very sensitive roots, so a pot is recommended.

Harvest poppies and cut them for a vase

The individual flowers are short-lived, lasting only 3 to 4 days. It is recommended to blanch the stem ends in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds. The dried seed capsules can be stored indefinitely.
