Sowing and caring for Zinnias
Sow indoors between February and April. Cover the seeds lightly with soil. Only plant out when there is no longer any risk of frost. Can also be sown directly into the bed in late spring. Zinnias have sensitive roots. A planting pot that is planted directly into the ground is preferable. Do not water too much. Flowering time is extended by regular pruning.
Harvesting Zinnias & cutting them for vases
The “wobble test” can be used to determine whether the zinnia is ready for harvesting. To do this, hold the stem about 8 cm below the flower and shake it gently: if the stem is limp or bends, it is not yet ready for harvesting; it is only ready when it remains firm and upright. The vase life is about 7 days.
